Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:tuffaceous lithified muddy mudstone
Secondary lithology:tuffaceous lithified sandy sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: The plant-bearing beds comprise a short section (c. 4 m) of dark grey tuffs and tuffaceous sandstones, siltstones and mudstones that dip 26ENE. These are finely laminated with normal gradation and intercalations of coal beds in mudstones.
Environment:fluvial-lacustrine indet.
Geology comments: On the basis of the high content of fungal, bryophyte and pteridophyte remains recorded, Shen (1994) considered the plant debris to be autochthonous, and to have been deposited in a lake during a warm (subtropical), humid climatic interval, although those in the braided river deposits will inevitably have been transported some distance from the source flora.
