Stratigraphy
Geological group:Karoo Formation:Omingonde
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Referred to as the "Lower Etjo Beds" by Keyser (1973) but now called the Omingonde Formation. "Based on the co-occurrence of Kannemeyeria and Erythrosuchus in subzone B of the Cynognathus Assemblage Zone, the Omingonde Formation may be broadly assigned an Anisian age." (Damiani et al. 2007. Palaeontology 50: 1531-1546)

Abdala & Smith (2009) suggest the possibility of two different faunas in the upper Omingonde Formation; an older one corresponding to Cynognathus Subzone B and the upper possibly to Cynognathus Subzone C. On the basis of the presence of Chiniquodon in the upper fauna, Abdala & Smith (2009) tentatively suggested that the Omingonde could extend into the early Ladinian. The low stratigraphic position of this specimen in the Omingonde would place it in the lower fauna, of early Anisian age.
