Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: lithified siltstone
Secondary lithology: lithified claystone
Lithology description: All specimens are preserved as almost completely flat, cream or grey coloured impressions on cream coloured silt- to claystone.
Environment:marginal marine indet.
Geology comments: This unit likely formed in quiet bottom water conditions (Edwards et al.,
1997). This is supported by the associated brachiopod assemblage (the
Taungurungetes taggertyensis assemblage, see Earp, 2016) which resembles
the BA2 chonetids community of Boucot (1975, p. 17, fig. 8). This community is typically found in intertidal, quiet (very low energy) water environments, with a maximum water depth of approximately 10 m.
