Stratigraphy
Geological group:Passa Dois Formation:Rio do Rastro Member:Serrinha
Stratigraphic resolution:member
Stratigraphy comments: For Rohn (1994), the stratigraphic position of this outcrop is equivalent to the top of the Serrinha Member of Rio do Rasto Formation, zone 8B (Upper Permian). Holz et al. (2010) positioned the Serrinha Member in the Guadalupian (Wordian-Captanian, from 268–260 M.y.).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: carbonaceous siltstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: Yellowish carbonate siltstone from the top of the Serrinha Member, Rio do Rasto Formation, Passa Dois Group, ParanĂ¡ Basin.
Environment:lacustrine indet.
Geology comments: The depositional paleoenvironment of the Rio do Rasto Formation was discussed by several authors, and the paleogeographical simplified map presented in Figure 13 was based on some of these interpretations (e.g. Mendes 1967; Ragonha 1989; Rohn & Rosler 1990; Lavina 1991; Stollhofen et al. 2000; Holz et al. 2010). Paranaichthys longianalis lived in relatively shallow freshwater lakes and rivers, probably feeding on hard food items such as small bivalve mollusks and conchostracean crustaceans as indicated by its dentition.
