Stratigraphy comments: Except where otherwise stated, ref. 7624 uses Lower Silurian as equivalent to Llandovery, Middle Silurian as equivalent to Wenlock, and Upper Silurian as equivalent to Ludlow plus Pridoli. Fossils have been referred by earlier authors to the Ludlow. "We suggest that this unit is of Late Wenlock-Ludlow age. The base of this unit is unknown. The overlying unit is poorly known, but may be of Ludlow and Pridoli age, and needs additional study." |
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | shelly/skeletal,gray,red or brown "limestone" |
Secondary lithology: | green,yellow silty "shale" |
Lithology description: "...a series of gray and reddish-gray, thick-bedded and massive, bioclastic, crystalline limestone and medium- to thin-bedded limestone interbedded with yello-green, silty shale and sandstone. Locally it is rich in fossils [details]...The unit is about 500 m thick." | |
Environment: | marine indet. |
