Stratigraphy
Formation: | Collón Cura | Member: | Las Bayas
Stratigraphic resolution: | group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Kramarz et al. 2019: In this area, the Collón Cura Formation lays above the La Pava Formation separated by an angular unconformity, both filling part of a paleovalley excavated on igneous rocks of the Mamil Choique Formation (Permian). In this site, the exposed section of the Collón Cura Formation is 57 m thick. The fossil-bearing horizon is formed by slightly edaphized whitish-greyish tuffites lo- cated 8 m above the base of the exposed section. Based upon the lithological attributes, this sequence is referable to the Las Bayas Member, whereas the Pilcaniyeu Ignimbrite Member is missing in this area. In summary, the available stratigraphic and radiometric information supports an early middle Miocene (Langhian) for the deposits of the Collón Cura Formation exposed along the Comallo Valley. |
