Stratigraphy comments: Fossil was collected at the base of "Faja Verde I" about 116 meters from the base of the formation (which is 410m thick)
Fernicola et al. 2021: new 238U-206Pb isochron age (46.2 Ma) obtained from samples taken on various independent points across paleosol and matrix positioned at the top of the lower section of the Lumbrera Formation. The new age is consistent with the hyperthermal scheme and constrains the deposition of the lower section of the Lumbrera Fm. between 55–46.2 Ma. Subsequently, the upper sections of the Lumbrera Formation are now constrained between 46 and 40 Ma (Lutetian) (see Fernicola et al. 2021: New assemblage of cingulates) |

Lithology description: Este nivel presenta un claro predominio psamítico, representado por areniscas y areniscas calcáreas, blanquecinas, de granulormetría muy fina con pocas intercalaciones de pelitas de colores verdes, rosadas y morados predominantes. En la parte inferior se observan algunos bancos de areniscas que lateralmente se adelgazan y desparecen en forma de lentes; asimismo se distinguen niveles con estratificación entrecruzada. La parte media y superior de la unidad muestra buena estratificación en bancos cuyo espesor oscila entre pocos centímetros hasta un máximo de 0,30 m. A unos de de 0,80 m de la base de esta unidad de ubica el nivel portador del se ubica el nivel portador del mamífero descripto en este trabajo. | |
