Lithology and environment
Primary lithology: | lithified "limestone" |
Lithology description: archaeocyath bioherms, 3 types: (1) isolated bioherms, 0.5-2.5 m in diameter and 0.3-0.7 m thick, (2) several bioherms form small patch reefs, 5-8 m thick and 10-20 m across, (3) massive composite bioherms, several m thick and more than 10 m long, bioherm complex 30-70 m thick. (From Laurie 1986): This formation name was proposed by Wells et al. (1967, p. 37) to define a sequence of thinly bedded calcareous sandstone, red-brown sandstone, siltstone and thinly interbedded dolostone overlain by pink and grey thick-bedded dolostone which crops out in the northeastern portion of the basin. | |
Environment: | reef, buildup or bioherm |
Geology comments: low-energy open shelf |

Taxonomic list comments:CPC specimens. This locality was originally collected during regional mapping of the area by the Bureau of Mineral Resources during the early 1960s. Further collecting was undertaken by the author in August, 1983. |
