Stratigraphy
| Formation: | Ookui | ||||
| Stratigraphic resolution: | bed | ||||
| Stratigraphy comments: About 70 cm below the Hakeyama tuff (dated by fission track at 1.3 +/- 0.3 Ma). The age of the Upper member of the Ookui Formation is assigned to Early Pleistocene based on: (1) K-Ar age of the overlying Nunobikikannon Formation shows 1.4±0.6 Ma (Yamagishi and Kosaka, 1991). (2) K-Ar age of the uppermost formation of the Yachiho Group shows 1.17±0.05 Ma (Kaneoka and Kawachi, 1983). (3) The lowest formation of the Yachiho Group is correlated with the Matuyama Reversed Epoch older than Jaramillo event, based on paleomagnetization of volcanic rocks (Kondo, 1988). (4) Fossils of Stegodon aurorae reported the Upper member of the Ookui Formation and the lowest formation of the Yachiho Group. | |||||
