Stratigraphy comments: Late Mid to Late Eocene on the basis of calcareous nannofossils (Okada and Kaiho 1992). Planktonic foraminifera indicate that the uppermost part of the Poronai Formation may extend into the earliest Oligocene (Kaiho 1984a, 1984b; Kaiho et al. 1986).

Primary lithology: lithified mudstone
Environment:marine indet.
Geology comments: Poronai Formation in the Ikushunbetsu district includes both shelf (sublittoral) and slope (upper bathyal) deposits. The stratigraphic position of this specimen, and therefore the environment, is unknown.
