Stratigraphy
Formation:Fujina
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Based on planktonic foraminifera, the upper member of the Fujina (=Huzina) Formation is assigned to N10-11 of Blow's zones (14.6/14.8-12.4 Ma) (Nomura & Maiya, 1984). Age constrained to N11 planktonic foraminifera zone by Yanagisawa (1990). Base of overlying Matsue Formation dated around 11.5-11.9 Ma by Shikano & Nagano (1985).
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:fine lithified sandstone
Lithology description: Soft, fine-grained sandstone
Environment:offshore
Geology comments: Lower part of Huzina (=Fujina) formation deposited in outer neritic zone (50-200 m depth) on the basis of benthic foraminifera.
