Stratigraphy
Formation:Motojuku Member:Kabutoiwa
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: Previously, the geologic age of the member was indicated as Miocene (Motojuku Collaborative Research Group, 1970). Sato (2007) used a fresh basaltic andesite composition from the Arafune Lava in the Mt. Kabutoiwa area and the sample was dated at 3.4 ± 0.2 Ma by the K-Ar method. This result indicates that volcanism in the Motojuku caldera lasted until late Pliocene and the age of the Kabutoiwa Member is confirmed to be late Pliocene (early Piacenzian) near 3.5 Ma.
