Stratigraphy
Geological group:Shirado Formation:Minamishirado Member:lower
Stratigraphy comments: Minamishirado Formation, Shirado Group, latest early Miocene, Burdigalian. The Mina- mishirado Formation is divided into two parts (lower and upper part). Fission track dating of the tuff layer in the lower part of the Minamishirado Formation yielded geological age of 15.9 ± 0.7 Ma (1σ) (Kubo et al., 2002). According to the diatom biostratigraphy, Minamishirado Formation is correlated to the upper part of the Crucidenticula kanayae Zone (NPD 3A: 16.5–16.3 Ma) (Koizumi, 1985, 1986; Yanagisawa and Akiba, 1998; Kubo et al., 2002; Sudo et al., 2005).
