Lithology description: Numerous specimens of Callianassa chelae are met with in the Poronai Series (Lower Neogene) of Hokkaido, especially abundant in the Ishikari coal-field. They are almost aiways found in marly nodules and usually represented by manus, very often isolated but rarely in assoeiation with carpi and other joints.
