Stratigraphy
| Formation: | Haze | Member: | Iu | ||
| Stratigraphy comments: Iu Mudstone Member of Haze Formation. The Iu Member is the only exposed formation at the fossil locality (Kinoshita & Yamaji, 2021). The age of the Iu Member is about 18.7 to 18.5 Ma (Burdigalian, Early Miocene) based on biostratigraphy (diatom biozone NPD2A) and magnetostratigraphy (Chron C5Er) (Hoshi, Sahashi, et al., 2019). The Haze Formation (including the Iu Member) is covered by the Oi Formation (18.5–17.0 Ma; Hoshi, Iwano et al., 2019; Hoshi, Sahashi et al., 2019; Irizuki et al., 2021). From the Oi Formation, the mandibles of an odontocete and the skull of one Isanacetus-like mysticete were reported (Tanaka et al., 2021, 2024). |
