Stratigraphy comments: "Equivalent to the Nakazato Formation." The Nakazato Formation is in the middle of the Kazusa Group. Nozaki et al. (2014) dated the underlying Nojima, Ofuna, and Koshiba Formations as early Calabrian on the basis of planktonic foraminifera, nannofossils, oxygen isotopes, and radiometric dating of ash layers. The Koshiba Formation, which directly underlies the Nakazato Formation, is around 1.48 to 1.63 Ma (MIS 49-57), so the Nakazato Formation is likely also early Calabrian.
