Stratigraphy
Formation:Zushi
Stratigraphic resolution:group of beds
Stratigraphy comments: Position within the Zushi Formation not specified. The microfossil biostratigraphy of the Zushi Formation was established based on calcareous nannofossils (Kanie et al., 1991). The majority of nannofossils recovered from the lower part of the Zushi Formation correspond to Zone CN9 (8.29-5.59 Ma; age dates based on Anthonissen and Ogg, 2012), spanning a duration of 2.7 million years. The Hk Tuff key bed, interbedded within the upper part of the Zushi Formation, yielded a K-Ar age of 4.1 ± 0.6 Ma (Saito et al., 1997); this result is consistent with the age dates for Subzones CN10b-CN10c (5.35-4.50 Ma) reported by Kanie et al. (1991). The Ok tuff bed in the lower part of the formation was dated as 6.3 +/- 0.4 Ma by fission track (Kasuya, 1987).
