Stratigraphy comments: According to Teduka & Yamada (2021), planktonic foraminifera of the N8 to N9 biozones (17-14.5 Ma; Hilgen et al., 2012; Hoshi et al., 2019) have been reported in the Hosotsubo and Daishoji Formations (Nakagawa & Chiji, 1988), while calcareous nannofossils of CN4 (14.9-13.5 Ma; Okada and Bukry, 1980) were obtained from the Daishoji Formation (Bito et al., 1980), which overlies the Hosotsubo Fm. They constrain the age of the Hosotsubo Formation to the 16.7-14.9 Ma range.
