| Stratigraphy comments: Early Middle Miocene in Goto &TJFSTR (2004). Takashi & Hayashi (2004) reviewed the stratigraphy in the Tomioka area, assigning the entire Tomioka Group (including the Haratajino Formation, the uppermost unit) to the early Middle Miocene (between 16.4 Ma and 16.0 Ma). The Haratajino Formation has a tuff bed at its base dated as 15.2 +/- 0.5 Ma by fission-track, and contains the first appearance of Praeorbulina circularis around 16.0 Ma. | |||||
