Stratigraphy
Formation:Waita
Stratigraphic resolution:bed
Stratigraphy comments: STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From Waita Fm, which overlies the Honjo Fm of the Ashiya Gp. THICKNESS: From individual bed within formation that reaches 450 m in thickness. AGE: latest Early Oligocene according to Sakakura (2002) on the basis of calcareous nannoplankton and foraminifera (see Saito and Okada, 1984; Tsuchi et al., 1987). STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: From base of cycle W-6, in upper part of formation.
Lithology and environment
Primary lithology:bioturbation poorly lithified sandstone
Includes fossils?Y
Lithology description: SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Bioturbated sandstone. LITHIFICATION: Poorly lithified on the basis of figured specimens and age.
Environment:transition zone/lower shoreface
Glacial or sequence phase:transgressive
Geology comments: ENVIRONMENT: Shallow shelf to offshore siliciclastic environment. From transgressive phase of relative sea-level fluctuation.
Taphonomy
Modes of preservation:body
Degree of concentration:concentrated
Size of fossils:macrofossils
Preservation of anatomical detail:excellent
Abundance in sediment:abundant
Spatial resolution:allochthonous
Collection methods and comments
Collection methods:field collection
Reason for describing collection:taphonomic analysis
Collection method comments: COLLECTOR: Presumably Sakakura (c. 2002). REPOSITORY: Possibly Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan.
Taxonomic list comments:COVERAGE: Exhaustive for bivalvia, gastropoda, and inclusive of scaphopods, cirripeds, and echinoids. NOMENCLATURE: Not an authoritative publication, but utilizing relatively modern nomenclature, though not assigned subgenus-level identifications and many occurrences lacking species names.
