Kirkkavak Hill sample 08.K.2.1 (Paleocene of Turkey)

Where: Turkey (39.4° N, 32.1° E: paleocoordinates 30.6° N, 29.4° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Thanetian (59.2 - 56.0 Ma)

• The Palaeocene sequence, up to 900 m thick, unconformably overlies Upper Jurassic rocks and can be divided into two conformable units, both attributed to the Danian–Thanetian.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; sandy limestone

• The age of Lower Palaeogene shallow-marine carbonate successions of the Haymana-Polatli Basin has usually been determined using the very rich fauna of larger foraminifera.
