La Flecha ranch (Cretaceous of Argentina)

Also known as La Flecha farm

Where: Chubut, Argentina (43.8° S, 68.6° W: paleocoordinates 49.3° S, 40.4° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• small collection-level geographic resolution

When: Cerro Castaño Member (Cerro Barcino Formation), Albian (113.0 - 100.5 Ma)

• Previously Bayo Overo Member. Krause et al. 2020 and Silva Nieto et al. 2017 consider the Bayo Overo member as an undifferentiated correlative of the Puesto La Paloma and Cerro Castaño members that crop out in the eastern localities of the Somuncurá-Cañadón-Asfalto basin, as in these eastern localities, the Puesto La Paloma, Cerro Castaño and Las Plumas members cannot be easily differentiated. Based on Krause et al. 2020 and Carballido et al. 2017. The contact zones between Puesto La Paloma and Cerros Castaño is approximately Aptian-Early Albian at ~118.5-110.8 Ma.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: "floodplain"; muddy sandstone and sandy mudstone

• fluvial floodplain with recurrent episodes of flooding
• interbedded muddy sandstones and sandy mudstones, with thin intercalations of fine-grained sandstone bodies

Size class: macrofossils
