Also known as Bou Hamza section (lower), Morocco

Where: Morocco (35.3° N, 3.0° W)

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Messinian (7.2 - 5.3 Ma)

• Data a composite of sampled horizons within "16 m thick shallow-water limestone". No formal lithostratigraphic names used in text. Dated tuffs within unit yielded an ages of 6.40 +/- 0.01 and 6.30 +/- 0.02 Ma.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shelly/skeletal limestone

• "The Melilla-Nador basin is one of the post nappe basins of the Rif region created during sun-Tortonian extensional period. Late Tortonian and Messinian deposits are widely transgressive over the tectonized bvasiment and lower part of the Messinian deposits is characterized by southward prograding shallow water bioclastic then reefal complexes, changing to open marine marls and diatomites
• 16 m thick shallow-water limestone, first bioclastic in type, changing upwards in Porites coral-reef banks with Halimeda

Size class: macrofossils
