Khongil Tsav I [HMNS-GIN] (Cretaceous to of Mongolia)

Where: Omnogov, Mongolia (44.2° N, 102.8° E: paleocoordinates 45.0° N, 93.0° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Baynshire Formation, Cenomanian to Cenomanian (100.5 - 83.6 Ma)

• Bayn Shire Formation

•Kurumada et al. 2020: Two meaningful calcite U–Pb ages were obtained; 95.9 ± 6.0 and 89.6 ± 4.0 Ma, which are consistent with published ages from the Bayn Shire Formation.

• group of beds-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial; lithified, fine-grained, red sandstone and red mudstone

• "alternations of red sandstone and mudstone layers, and thick red mudstone layers, and conglomerate-gravel layers." fossils in "red fine sandstone layer with platy monoclinal cross-stratification…the hard red fine sandstone layer."

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by HMNS-GIN in 1993–1995, 1998, 2000, 2007, 2008

Collection methods: quarrying, surface (in situ),

• JMJPE explored here in 1995 and 1998. Three partial ankylosaur skeletons (mainly pelvic part) in 1995, and one of them was collected in 1998. A well-preserved skeleton of a hadrosaur was discovered from the upper horizon of the geological section. Both the hadrosaur and one of the ankylosaurs were destroyed by poachers.
