Goshoura Island (Loc.1415) (Cretaceous of Japan)

Where: Japan (32.3° N, 130.3° E: paleocoordinates 44.6° N, 127.0° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Arakuchizaki Member (Eboshi Formation), Albian (113.0 - 100.5 Ma)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: peritidal; lithified, graded sandstone and lithified, gray, red mudstone

• The Arakuchizaki Member (newly defined) con-

•sists of tidal flat, channel and tidal sand bar deposits

•(Komatsu, 1999a).

• The upper part consists of the alternated beds

•of sandstone and dark gray to black mudstone. The

•mudstone color gradually changes from dark gray

•through red and light green to dark gray mudstones

•toward the top of this member. The red and light

•green mudstones are massive. The dark gray mud-

•stone of the upper part contains lenticular to flaser

•beds with bidirectional current ripple laminations, but

•these laminations are generally obscured by intense

•bioturbations.

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: shellbed
