Megafauna of Surrett Canyon Fm. (Chesterian); Idaho: Section B-Horse Haven (Carboniferous of the United States)

When: Surrett Canyon Formation, Chesterian (335.5 - 323.2 Ma)

• The Surrett Canyon is underlain by the South Creek Fm. and overlain gradationaly by the Arco Hills Fm. The partial exposure of the Surrett Canyon Fm. at Section B is 232.6m thick and divided into three segments.

Environment/lithology: intraclastic, peloidal, shelly/skeletal wackestone and intraclastic, argillaceous packstone

• The lower segment is 28m thick and is dominated by a series of skeletal wackestones whcih are separated by an argillaceous bioclastic packstone interval. The overlying units are distinguished by thier argillaceous and coarse grained nature. This segment, approx. 55m thick is characterized by an abundance of bioclastic-intraclastic wacke/packstones. The remaining 149m of section is characterized by an abundance of sparse and skeletal-pelletoidal wackestones. Minor lithologies include pelletoidal-foraminiferal wackestones and fossiliferous mudstones. The upper 55m of section contains abundant nodular and lenticular chert.
