Half Three Point assemblage (Cretaceous to of Antarctica)

Where: Antarctica (62.2° S, 59.0° W: paleocoordinates 60.1° S, 69.3° W)

• coordinate stated in text

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Half Three Point Formation, Late/Upper Campanian to Late/Upper Campanian (83.5 - 66.0 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: fluvial-lacustrine; lithified, tuffaceous, muddy mudstone and lithified, tuffaceous, sandy sandstone

• On the basis of the high content of fungal, bryophyte and pteridophyte remains recorded, Shen (1994) considered the plant debris to be autochthonous, and to have been deposited in a lake during a warm (subtropical), humid climatic interval, although those in the braided river deposits will inevitably have been transported some distance from the source flora.
• The plant-bearing beds comprise a short section (c. 4 m) of dark grey tuffs and tuffaceous sandstones, siltstones and mudstones that dip 26ENE. These are finely laminated with normal gradation and intercalations of coal beds in mudstones.

Size class: microfossils

• Other: Palynomorphs

Preservation: soft parts, original sporopollenin

Collection methods: bulk, chemical, hydrochloric, hydroflouric,
