Santa Elena Quarry (Ordovician of Paraguay)

Where: Paraguay (25.4° S, 56.8° W: paleocoordinates 43.2° S, 143.4° W)

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Normalograptus persculptus graptolite zone, Eusebio Ayala Formation, Hirnantian (445.2 - 443.4 Ma)

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: shallow subtidal; micaceous, red sandstone and micaceous, red siltstone

• Vertical burrows referred to Skolithos by Godoy Ciguel et al. (1987) are very abundant suggesting lower intertidal-shallow subtidal depositional settings.
• reddish micaceous sandstone grading upward to fine-grained fossiliferous sandstone and siltstone..... The shell beds yielding the brachiopods described in this study are confined to the upper part of the Eusebio Ayala Formation where they are interbedded with iron-rich levels (Fig. 2).

Size classes: macrofossils, mesofossils

Collection methods: All specimens are housed in the Centro de Inves- tigaciones en Ciencias de la Tierra (CICTERRA), Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Cientı ́ficas y Te ́cnicas, Univers- idad Nacional de Co ́rdoba (acronym CEGH-UNC).
