Where: Buenos Aires, Argentina (38.6° S, 58.8° W: paleocoordinates 38.6° S, 58.2° W)
• coordinate estimated from map
• small collection-level geographic resolution
When: San Andrés Formation, Early/Lower Pleistocene (2.6 - 0.8 Ma)
• De Santi et al. 2021: Nine levels are recognized in the Punta Negra profile (Bidegain et al. 2005). The basal levels (PN7 to PN9) with normal polarity are correlated with uncertainty to the Jaramillo subchron around 1.0 Ma, although an older age could not be ruled out. The intermediate levels (PN2 to PN6) record reversed polarity correlated with the post-Jaramillo Matuyama (C1r.1r, i.e. between 0.99 and 0.78). The uppermost level (PN1) with normal polarity is assigned to the Bruhnes chron (<0.78Ma; Fig. 1B).
