Corehole UAL-13, sample R4245 F (Paleocene of Pakistan)

Where: Sindh, Pakistan (25.8° N, 68.3° E: paleocoordinates 8.2° S, 57.8° E)

• coordinate estimated from map

• hand sample-level geographic resolution

When: Lakhra Formation (Ranikot Group), Paleocene (66.0 - 56.0 Ma)

Environment/lithology: marine; limestone and marl

• The Lakhra Formation appears to represent largely brackish-water to shallow marine deposition.
• It contains some carbonaceous detrital strata, but the distinctive rocks of the Lakhra Formation are foraminiferal limestone, marl, and shell has beds.

Size class: microfossils

Preservation: original sporopollenin

Collected by GPS and USGS

Collection methods: core

• Investigation by the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GPS) and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

•"The samples were processed using normal palynological techniques of HCl; HF; HNO3; short centrifugation with soapy water to remove fines; heavy liquid separation using a ZnCl2 liquid of 1.8 s.g.; staining with Bismarck brown; and screening on 10 µm sieves. Thes residues were mounted in glycerine jelly."
