Environment/lithology: coastal; intraclastic, conglomeratic sandstone

• "...hard massive bed of conglomeratic graywacke at the base of the formation, which is literally filled with small angular fragments of slate. ... This bed is the most highly fossiliferous in the entire formation for macroscopic forms and is commonly 20ยท to 30 feet thick, though ranging from 50 feet down to the vanishing point."
