Xiangshuyuan Formation in NE Guizhou Province (Silurian of China)

Where: Guizhou, China (27.5° N, 108.2° E: paleocoordinates 7.8° N, 125.8° E)

• coordinate based on political unit

• basin-level geographic resolution

When: Xiangshuyuan Formation, Llandovery (443.4 - 433.4 Ma)

• Except where otherwise stated, ref. 7624 uses Lower Silurian as equivalent to Llandovery, Middle Silurian as equivalent to Wenlock, and Upper Silurian as equivalent to Ludlow plus Pridoli. "In light of the presence of Pristiograptus gregarius in the underlying formation, and the presence in the lower part of this formation of Borealis, it was assigned to the late Middle Llandoverian. The upper part of the formation containing Stricklandia, Merciella, Paraconchidium, and Virgianella was assigned to the earliest Late Llandovery." Above Lungmachi Fm. and below Leijiatun Fm.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; limestone and mudstone

• Correlation chart indicates BA3 based on shelly fauna at most localities, in some places BA3-4, and in some places graptolite-based ba3.
• "It has a thickness of about 76 m, and consists mainly of limestone and nodular marl with some mudstone and shale."
