Horlick Formation lithofacies 7 (Devonian of Antarctica)

Where: Antarctica (84.8° S, 115.0° W: paleocoordinates 34.6° S, 175.6° W)

• coordinate estimated from map

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Horlick Formation, Early/Lower Devonian (419.2 - 393.3 Ma)

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; calcareous sandstone and mudstone

• The marine lithofacies 1-8 are interpreted as "shallow inner shelf to shoreline, where storms produced a changing pattern of coarse sand bars and finer troughs." Lithofacies 7 interpreted as "outer shoreface grading into open shelf"
• "Thin, poorly sorted, carbonate-cemented sandstones (up to granule conglomerate with angular quartz and feldspar grains) and mudstones, that are rich in molluscs (bivalves, bellerophontids), tentaculitids, and trilobites, with some brachiopods. Usually associated with Lithofacies 2 and 3"

Collection methods: Taxa are listed as Present, Abundant, Rare.
