• LITHOSTRATIGRAPHY: Upper Aorere Series=group of Henderson et al. (1959). AGE: Lower Gisbornian. Cooper (1971) notes that this is now the Peel Formation, which overlies the Douglas formation (PJW).

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified shale and lithified sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Environmental data not reported in text.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Interbeded slates, quartzites, and sandstones. LITHIFICATION: Assumed to be lithified as rocky types are slightly metamorphosed (e.g. slates).
