Kallholn, Siljan District (Ordovician of Sweden)

Where: Dalarna, Sweden (61.2° N, 14.7° E: paleocoordinates 28.2° S, 7.0° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Boda Core Member (Boda Limestone Formation), Katian (453.0 - 445.2 Ma)

• These beds have been referred to as Upper Kallholn or Leptaena Limestone by earlier authors.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: reef, buildup or bioherm; shelly/skeletal lime mudstone

• This formation consists of a number of isolated fossiliferous carbonate lenses, which have been referred to previously as organic reefs. Recent studies (Jaanusson in Ross et al., 1975, and Jaanusson, 1979) have shown, however, that no organic control or frame during the growth of these lenses can be recognized, and for this reason the term "car- bonate mounds" is deemed more suitable."

Size class: macrofossils

Preservation: cast, replaced with calcite

Taxonomic list

• The specimens PIU D727 and D740 are listed among the material of Schuchertoceras troedssoni in the reference. It is stated that "Neither, however, is well enough preserved to be positively associated with Schuchertoceras troedssoni" but elsewhere it is stated that the specimens "compare favorably with the holotype of S. troedssoni in enough [...] respects to warrant at least tentative assignment to this species". Hence, the name of the taxon is spelled with a question mark previous to the specific epithet in the taxonomic list with regard to these specimens, although not spelled that way in the reference. The same applies to specimens assigned "with some reservation" to the newly described species.
