Loc. 107, De Long Mountains [Siksikpuk Fm] (Carboniferous of the United States)

Also known as 97AK74T

Where: Alaska (68.3° N, 162.2° W: paleocoordinates 36.0° N, 8.8° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Siksikpuk Formation (Etivluk Group), Morrowan (323.2 - 318.6 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Siksikpuk Formation of the Etivluk Gp. AGE: Probably Early-early Middle Pennsylvanian (Morrowan), based on co-occurrence of P.? triporosa and S. tailleurense. P.? triporosa in Alaska occurs with conodonts of early Morrowan age, and may range into the early Atokan, but the range of S. tailleurense is most likely Chesterian to Morrowan. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Sample from Siksikpuk Formation, ~153 ft above base of section and 65 ft above base of unit

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, gray, green chert

• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Interbedded grayish-green chert (beds 2 to 4 cm) and medium-grayish-green shale (beds. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, on the basis of facies description and preparation techniques.

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by Kelley in 1997; reposited in the USNM

• COLLECTOR: J. S. Kelley. REPOSITORY: Presumably USNM.
