Loc. 107, De Long Mountains [Kuna Fm] (Carboniferous of the United States)

Also known as 97AK74N

Where: Alaska (68.3° N, 162.2° W: paleocoordinates 32.7° N, 11.5° W)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• outcrop-level geographic resolution

When: Kuna Formation, Serpukhovian (330.9 - 323.2 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Kuna Formation, which is overlain by the Siksikpuk Fm (Carboniferous-Permian). AGE: late Late Mississippian to early Middle Pennsylvanian (Chesterian to Morrowan); placed in Serpukhovian to avoid stratigraphic orphaning. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Sample at top of Kuna Formation, ~88 ft above base of section and just below contact with overlying Siksikpuk Formation.

• bed-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: marine; lithified chert

• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Vitreous chert with mammiform structures. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, on the basis of facies description and preparation techniques.

Size class: macrofossils

Collected by Kelley in 1997; reposited in the USNM

• COLLECTOR: J. S. Kelley. REPOSITORY: Presumably USNM.
