Also known as 97AK74G & 97AK74J
Where: Alaska (68.3° N, 162.2° W: paleocoordinates 32.7° N, 11.5° W)
• coordinate based on nearby landmark
• outcrop-level geographic resolution
When: Kuna Formation, Serpukhovian (330.9 - 323.2 Ma)
• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Kuna Formation, which is overlain by the Siksikpuk Fm (Carboniferous-Permian). AGE: late Late Mississippian to early Middle Pennsylvanian (Chesterian to Morrowan); placed in Serpukhovian to avoid stratigraphic orphaning. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Samples from Kuna Formation, from medium-dark-gray to black chert in nodular beds to 10 cm thick with black shale partings. 74G taken ~45 ft above base of section (43 ft below top of Kuna). 74J taken ~63 ft above base of section (25 ft below top of Kuna).
• bed-level stratigraphic resolution
Environment/lithology: marine; lithified, black, gray chert
Size class: macrofossils
Collected by Kelley in 1997; reposited in the USNM
• COLLECTOR: J. S. Kelley. REPOSITORY: Presumably USNM.
