Derivation of name. L. multi, many; plus castrum, castles. With reference to the many (often circular) multitubercular castle-like pore conuli on the surface of this species.

Sister taxon: Castillocythereis albertoriccardii

Type specimen: LM-FCEN 3454, a carapace. Its type locality is Cerro Azul CA 16, which is in a Danian marine siltstone in the Jagüel Formation of Argentina.

Distribution:

• Paleocene of Argentina (5 collections)
