Type specimen: AMNH 4064, a partial skeleton (partial skull, fragments of vertebrae, sacrum and astragalus). Its type locality is Coffee Creek, 34 (Arroyo Formation), which is in a Kungurian terrestrial claystone/sandstone in the Arroyo Formation of Texas.
