Sister taxa: Calyptocephalella gayi, Calyptocephalella sabrosa

Type specimen: A.M.N.H. No. 3429, a partial skeleton (partial skeleton consisting of crushed skul, right half of pectoral girdle, right fore limb, first three vertebrae, and other fragments). Its type locality is Crater Lake Beds - Scarritt Pocket, which is in a Chattian crater lake conglomerate/sandstone in the Sarmiento Formation of Argentina.
