Sister taxa: Brachypterygius alekseevi, Brachypterygius cantabrigiensis, Brachypterygius extremus, Brachypterygius pseudoscythica, Grendelius zhuravlevi, Grendelius alekseevi

Type specimen: J68516, a partial skeleton (complete skull with some postcranial elements). Its type locality is Great Ouse Flood Relief Channel at Stowbridge, which is in a Tithonian marine horizon in the Kimmeridge Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.

Ecology: nektonic carnivore

Distribution: there are no occurrences of Brachypterygius mordax in the database
