Sister taxon: Bishanopliosaurus zigongensis

Type specimen: IVPP V5869, a set of vertebrae. Its type locality is Tuanbaopo, Gaoqiao, which is in a Toarcian lacustrine - large mudstone in the Ziliujing Formation of China.
