Type specimens:

  • Hyposaurus rogersii: Its type locality is Big Timber Creek, Stratford, which is in a Danian marine sandstone in the Hornerstown Formation of New Jersey
  • Hyposaurus ferox: YPM 2794, a set of teeth (2 teeth). Its type locality is Pemberton Marl Company pit (Hornerstown), which is in a Maastrichtian marginal marine marl in the Hornerstown Formation of New Jersey.
  • Hyposaurus natator: YPM 985, a partial skeleton (Skull and jaws, pelvis, shoulder, 33 vertebrae and rib fragments). Its type locality is Cream Ridge Marl Company pit (Hornerstbown Fm.), which is in a Maastrichtian marginal marine marl in the Hornerstown Formation of New Jersey.
  • Hyposaurus natator oweni: YPM 753, a partial skeleton (Mandible, several dorso-lumbar vertebrae, complete right pelvis, a few caudals, and some limb elements).

Distribution:

• Paleocene of United States (3: Alabama, New Jersey collections)

• Cretaceous of United States (5: Maryland, New Jersey)

Total: 8 collections each including a single occurrence
