Sister taxa: Oligotypus huangheensis, Oligotypus makowskii, Oligotypus tillyardi

Type specimen: PI1988.001.001, a forewing. Its type locality is Strip mine at Windham Springs, which is in a Westphalian A terrestrial shale in the Pottsville Formation of Alabama.
