Sister taxon: Opsieobuthus tungeri
Type specimen: FMNH UC 37984. Its type locality is Strip pit east of Clay City, which is in a Westphalian A/Westphalian B terrestrial shale in the Pottsville Formation of Indiana.

Distribution: there are no occurrences of Opsieobuthus pottsvillensis in the database
