Sister taxon: Malpolon monspessulanus

Type specimen: MNCN 10000, a partial skull (posterior part of braincase). Its type locality is Layna, Cerro Pelado, which is in a Ruscinian karst horizon in Spain.

Ecology: ground dwelling carnivore

Distribution: found only at Layna, Cerro Pelado
