Sister taxa: Pelobates cultripes, Pelobates fuscus, Pelobates syriacus, Pelobates varaldii

Type specimen: BSPG 1959 II 16338, a partial skull (an isolated frontoparietal). Its type locality is Sandelzhausen gravel pit, which is in a Langhian fluvial-lacustrine marl/mudstone in the Upper Freshwater Molasse Formation of Germany.

Ecology: amphibious carnivore

Distribution: found only at Sandelzhausen gravel pit
