Sister taxa: Trematosaurus brauni, Trematosaurus thuringiensis
Type specimen: PIN 1043/774, a partial skull (Preorbital skull fragment without the narial region). Its type locality is Lipovskaya gully (Donskaya Luka), which is in an Olenekian terrestrial horizon in the Lipovskaya Formation of the Russian Federation.
Ecology: amphibious carnivore
Distribution: found only at Lipovskaya gully (Donskaya Luka)
