Type specimens:

  • Shansiodon wuhsiangensis: IVPP V 2416, a skull (Nearly complete skull). Its type locality is Peipanching Shihpi 5523, Wuhsiang-Yüshe area, which is in an Anisian terrestrial horizon in the Ermaying Formation of China.
  • Shansiodon shaanbeiensis: IGCAGS V 320, a skull. Its type locality is Hejiachuan, Shenmu, which is in an Anisian terrestrial horizon in the Ermaying Formation of China.
